  1. ROFL I almost died at the swastika part... Well at the very least it's not at an angle which would really make it the Nazi swastika... The real swastika had hindu origins didn't it, so I guess that's why it's on here? Even then it's kind of a stretch. Ninjago is mainly inspired by japanese culture, therefore there should be buddism or shintoism symbolism sprinkled in, but hinduism? I wouldn't think so. I doudt they thought of the stigma the symbol has in the western world when conceiving this, they might not have cared seeing as this is mainly aimed at the asian market. Still funny though!

    1. Yeah I did hear about that hahaha I think that, swastika or not, the symbol is out of place with the design. I mean, don't put it at the crotch area at least.. hahaha

  2. It's also a Buddhist symbol. You can regularly see it on temples or religious objects of various kind. The orientation as seen on this set is the common one, e. g. in Google Maps it is also used to indicate Buddhist temples in Japan, but you will also see the other variant from time to time.

So it is unsurprising to see it on toys or clothes, but obviously it gets problematic as soon as these products appear in the Western world. Some years ago there was an issue with some handbags; the Spanish brand had let them produce somewhere in Asia and for whatever reason they had noticed the symbol only when the bags were already in the shops.

It could well be that the Lego clone brands mainly focus on the Asian market, so they might just not care at all.

    Best, Oederland

    1. Yeah I guess so, but it really does resemble the symbol and I guess it really will affect people who are looking at things in a western perspective hahaha I don't get offended by such things, even with SY's ISIS minifigs but I do know others do get offended or even interested in such things haha thanks though for the input! I learn something new every day hehe
