Lepin 15090: Chinatown Silk and Satin Store (Clone of XB01001)

Damn, Lepin. Is this a joke??

So, Lepin and Xingbao are basically the same right? Except Xingbao is actually more or less legit and the creators of the designs get compensated somehow. So why the hell is Lepin stealing from their own?? This is funny to a point but I can't help but feel bad for the designers of these MOCs..

Any thoughts? Think this is a brilliant business strategy from Lepin? Or is it too foul? Or something else? Share your thoughts below and don't forget to follow our Facebook for more updates

  1. I bet lepin would steal money from their grandma's purse while she was baking them cookies. Tell us more about Xingbao.

  2. Quite honestly I kinda despise Lepin in general. They unrepentantly steal from lego, other clone bricks, themselves... It's a tad ridiculous.

    1. Yeah man. Stealing from TLG, then SY (and probably other bootleggers), and now their own contributors... I actually only have 1 Lepin set because yeah, it's sad what they're doing. Most of the things I have are the "original" designs. Especially minifigs, that are really hard to get when you're in a third world country + super expensive.

  3. Xingbao is a subsidiary of Lepin. They repositioning themselves to release afol design.

No worries the designers do get royalties

    1. I was just thinking that, maybe, in their aggreements/contracts/whatever, it might say something like "you get x% for ever XINGBAO sale" but then if Lepin is selling under Lepin name and not XINGBAO, maybe they get to NOT pay the designers. But yeah, hopefully the designers still do. I hope them releasing the products through Lepin name and not Xingbao is not a loophole. I really want the designers to get the monetary credit they deserve

  4. I heard so much about Lepin and Xingbao and how bad this all is. I thought I'd find out myself, to see if this is really the rubbish they say it is. So I bought a Lepin model and the Xing Bao Silk store 01001. Just build the XingBao 01001. Lego fans won't be happy to hear it, but this set is great. Lots of building pleasure, and lots of details. There has been a designer at work here. Brick quality is very close to the Original brick and the instruction manual is a high quality printed "book". Bags have been numbered, so you can build each unit. There are still mistakes in the numbering of the bags, but all bricks are there. Green baseplate is ok. The Lepin moc modular houses. Hotel whas not that interesting to build. Shure the style of XB01001 is Chinese, (Lego Temple is also in chinese style) but it's a real interesting model, with logical building steps. Color setting is nice using dark red and dark green it all gives a great look.

    1. Yeah Lepin brick quality is great. Lots of TLG purists though would bash the brand, and I understand. For XB's case though, I heard they're just as good from you and others and I respect them more because they actually give credit to the designers of the designs as opposed to Lepin who just steals designs without permission, and they're also rude since they actually clone sets that were just released and sometimes not even widely released yet.. haha
