POGO PG1050: Xenomorph from Alien Franchise Minifig Review

First previewed here!

Everyone was so hyped up about this fig! Let's see if it was worth the hype.

Front view. The prints are pretty good, I guess. It's hard to really judge because the real Aliens were all black and the designs were present because they were 3D unlike these minifigs which are, of course, flat or 2D.. (At least for the torso.) Still though, I'm glad to see these details and how they are very sharp once you look closer!

But I know the more important thing for you guys is the mold. The mold is.... alright, at least in my opinion. I don't think it gets that horrifying xenomorph impression, but at least it feels good. It's not that rubbery type of material seen in some TLNM/Star Wars POGO figs, but it's also not that usual TLG/SY/XINH kinda glossy plastic material. So yeah, materials wise, it's pretty average but that means it's not bad and is actually very bearable. The thing that concerns me more is that it doesn't seem to get some details well, as in the details could've been sharper. The lack of sharpness might have to do with how this fig doesn't get the horrifying, terrifying, life-threatening impression that these Xenomorphs have given audiences for a while now.

See how those parts under the "shell" of the head seem more lumpy than bony (as in bone-y)..

Credits though to POGO for putting in some side arm and side leg prints.. But damn, look at the shape of those lower leg prints.. Oh please, why did there have to be phallic references for this minifig.. Must be a marketing thing.. JK hahaha

The back part/tail definitely looks much more bony, but still could've been sharper.

I think though that where the lack of sharpness becomes really an issue is with the head, specifically the mouth. The terrifying teeth and especially when it opens its mouth to show its teeth and other mini mouth are somewhat forgotten.

He's got back torso prints even though he would usually have the backpack/tail.

Oh yeah, the head and tail are separate accessories.

The fig isn't perfect, but creating a mold seems to be hard work, even more so when it's a Xenomorph mold. If the news is true, POGO is also working on a Predator minifig with a new mold for a helmet. I feel like they should've started with that instead of this, because a Predator requires just one, relatively simple, helmet compared to a Xenomorph who needs a complicated shell helmet with the tail and torso being even more complicated.

Again, the fig isn't perfect but I think it's still worth it. Nothing like this has been done before, and I hope POGO both creates more unique stuff like this and improves their quality.

AngeloMarcus Greenhills already has this guy, and you can check him out on display first before buying to see if he's really worth your money. If you can't visit, then hopefully this review post is enough.

    2. Do you use clear nail polish or some other product?

    3. Use clear acrylic varnish aerosol. Just a Light spray. Leave for a day on the windowsill. Jobs a good un.
Always use to finish if you hand paint figs!!!

    4. Hey Nat, what do you use for paint? And are there any nice paint markers for figs? Something like Gundam Marker? Cause I'm not skilled at these creatives, and markers are way easier to use.. Hahaha

Also, my brother actually has Gundam Markers, do you know if they'll work fine? Haha

    5. I use acrylic paints. Cheap at a pound each from my local stationers.. If you go over a dark colour use an acylic primer first...
I know what you mean about using markers for detail but they dont dry well for me and they all run if you try to set with a varnish :(
Posted some of my customized aliens on flickr already but have a couple more pimped out figure shots to go up soon!!!!
