POGO PG8140, PG8141: Two Waves of Adventure Time Minifigs Review

First previewed here and here.

These nice designs came from Volatile Vertex and credits go to him for these. These were simply CG models that POGO decided to make.

PG1267 - Finn
PG1269 - Jake

Finn comes with a green sword and a small Jake fig. I think that the sword should've had a golden blade instead because the leaf sword looks very different from what they made. Jake comes with his violin. The quality of these are... not too good. While I'm sure these are better than other Chinese toys, I'm also sure that a lot of other brands can do better; even POGO themselves can do better than what we're seeing here, and that's the same for the rest of the figs and accessories in these two sets.

Now my biggest issue with this set has a lot to do with TLG. TLG did not design these figs and that's where the problem is. Here's a picture of Jake holding his violin though, and that's the only way he can hold it, and even then the violin isn't really designed to be held.

Mini Jake included with Finn also suffers the same problem of the whole set. As you can see, it's just a plain old fig that barely has anything to do with bricks. No anti-stud under or anything like it to make it stick to brick studs.

For the figs themselves, they're... substandard. We've seen a lot of POGO figs have this kind of quality, but we also know they're capable of much better. These figs don't have great plastic, not just the unique molds like Jake's head/body [and all the others in the two sets] but also the plain old minifig bodies. The prints are also sometimes not the right color, are fading, not aligned, and other not-so-good qualities. These comments continue on for the rest of the figs.

More signs of bad print and plastic here.

I love Finn's backpack though. Oh and no prints at the back.

The backpack can fit on any minifig though, so that's great.

PG1268 - Banana Guard
PG1271 - Princess Bubblegum

I love Banana Guard's spear and Bubblegum's flask is the usual.

Thankfully these two are better than the two above but they still have a fair share of problems.

Underneath their huge head accessories.

If you look at the bottom part of Bubblegum's legs, there's a weird circular shape present and a plastic scratch. It's not so apparent in the pictures, but they're very noticeable in person. This seems to be an issue with most, if not all, POGO skirt pieces.

Though they are using the new skirt pieces introduced by TLG.

PG1273 - Susan Strong
PG1274 - Grob Gob Glob Grod

Their accessories. Something unique for Grob Gob Glob Grod, thankfully. Susan came with a fish that I'm sure is quite normal now.

GGGG (Grob Gob Glob Grod) has that head piece which is a head in itself and not a helmet. It seems to be made by a softer type of plastic. I would've preferred that the faces had different expressions all around his head, but nope.

Another issue with GGGG is that the skirt piece wouldn't attach to studs. Probably an isolated issue, but the issue is probably because the anti-studs underneath aren't sized properly.

Four smiley faces for GGGG. Susan's helmet looks good though, assuming your prints are good.

A look at the back.

GGGG's armor might be useful for other MOCs though.

Susan's helmet might be good for MOCs and sigfigs too. I thin it's absolutely cute.

PG1264 - Prismo
PG1265 - The Lich
PG1266 - Magic Man

I'm surprised Prismo gets a fig, but I am interested in the character. Now Lich is actually a relatively complicated mold, but surprisingly POGO does a good job here compared to the others. Magic Man is also pretty mediocre but I wouldn't call it bad.

Prismo is weird.. but then again in the show, he's just a shadow or a light or something along those lines.

Lich could've come with a cloth cape but he instead came with a plastic cape. I have no complaints about that though.

Now Lich's head (no helmet), is a great thing. I love the details and the prints actually came out rather well.

He also gets back printing despite having a cape behind him.. Even the other like Susan didn't get back prints despite not having capes.

Just a look at the unique parts included.

Almost forgot the Lich's snail that has the same overall problem. It's not in the "system" of TLG. No studs or anything. Hands can't even hold the snail at any angle.

PG1260 - King of Ooo
PG1262 - Lemongrab

More unique accessories from these two!

Pictures say it all. The King's hat is pretty solid and looks good, maybe because it has no prints to ruin it.

Lemongrab's head is horrible and I don't know if that's intentional or not..

Lemongrab's nose is kinda pointy so make sure kids are cautious with it.

Back view. No back print for the King of Ooo..

PG1261 - Moe

Now for Moe. He's also pretty straightforward. The BMO accessory should've made this guy my favorite, but I didn't enjoy BMO..

Before anything though, Moe comes with a unique hairpiece that unfortunately does not go all the way down when attached to the head.

BMO on the other hand has a great design, but the implementation was poor. Why? Not just the bad prints, but all because it's just a plain old fig that has nothing to do with bricks. Not studs or anything remotely connected to TLG's system.

Minimal side designs. Moe's hair looks off.

No back design.

PG1270 - Flame Princess
PG1272 - Ice King

Fire and Ice. I love Gunther and it's nice to see him as a fig, but she has the same issues as well.

Faded white prints on Gunther and no studs for her which means she can't even stand on baseplates, you'd need to provide a flat surface for her. Flame Princess thankfully has a compatible accessory.

I am not a fan of the Ice King. Not the character, I love the character, but the fig. It seems out of proportion. Though hey, it's a minifig and it's possibly the best they could do. But even then, the head mold isn't great with not so good prints and weird shaping around some of the parts like the beard and crown. Flame Princess is much better in my opinion even though her hair could've used more print or design.

The head molds do seem solid and durable despite those weird shapes.

Oh and Ice King's head/beard is actually one big helmet. Oh and if you remember the problem with Bubblegum's skirt piece, they apply to these two as well.

PG1259 - Marceline
PG1263 - Party Pat

I love Marceline's axe guitar but man was it disappointing. It suffers the same issue as many accessories in this set: no compatibility. No fig can probler hold the guitar! Shame.

Marceline's hair also looks weird, but I think she does sport a similar hairstyle in some episodes. Other than that, the prints aren't so good especially on the legs as you can see.

Party Pat's head also can't avoid bad quality..

Biggest problem:
There is no clear integration with the "system" of TLG. TLG is a genius toy company because they can make so many accessories and parts that fit well within their world of bricks. POGO wasn't able to do the same since they really did just copy these from CG images. It's figs like this that remind us why TLG is and will always be the superior company compared to other knockoff brands.

Despite that, if you're a huge Adventure Time fan, do still try and see if you really think these are worth it for you. I hope the pictures will help you decide if they are worth it. It's best to go to local stores and see first before purchasing them; in AngeloMarcus Greenhills sometimes I take a lot of time just looking through the figs through their plastic bags to see if there are errors or anything so I recommend you do the same. For online shoppers, there's not a lot of advice I can give.. sorry..

  2. Thanks for the review. I was waiting to see what you had to say before getting these. Unfortunately, you can't trust POGO to make quality figs..
