LF Brand LF1007: Spider-Man Figures (Mega Construx Style) Review

The art and the figs [on the pictures] look identical to the XJ Brand we previewed the other day, and yet these ones I got are under the LF brand. Either XJ and LF are related/the same or one of them is bootlegging the other lol; the logos are the same though. In the end though, these are bootlegs of Mega Construx or Mega Blocks figures.

I've always admired Mega's figs from a distance; I loved their Halo figs and would love to get them but they're also on the pricier side of things, at least compared to bootlegs. This means though that I have no first hand experience with Mega figures which makes this review a bit more difficult because I have no reference point; as such I'll just state my thoughts as is.

I also won't look at the accessories too much anymore because they were pretty boring for the most part. What's noteworthy though is that they are all compatible with the usual brick systems we're familiar with.

Some highlights though:

The web system they have is interesting. It's soft plastic that can flex and fit around a stud and can be held by figure hands.

This plate that Spider-Man stands on also fits on a studded plate.

Moving on to the figs.

One figure has relatively a lot of parts. This is way more than the usual minifigure we're all used to. It took me a couple of minutes to build the first guy, but after that I got the hang of it and the others were easy to build even without instructions. Do note though that left and right matters; what I mean for example is that the hands are designated for one side only as opposed to TLG's usual hands. These actually look good though!

The plastic is also a soft kind of plastic. It actually felt decent and attached to one another well enough. At times it felt loose, but it wasn't a problem for articulation (unless the figs were holding something heavy). I wish it was less loose though, but as is they were fine I guess.

While the plastic quality was decent.. print quality has some alignment issues. Designs are also not so good as you'll see below.

Unaligned eye prints on the heads.

No side prints for all of them.
(Basically only the torso and head have prints.)

There's a hole at the back of the figs where you can attach other accessories or stands.

Unaligned torso print on the left and unaligned head print on the right.

... the back design ...

Easy way to abuse the Spider-Man design lol!

Again with the "Spider-Man" on the back lol

Oh and here's a view of the feet. They fit well on studs, even fully studded plates!

These figs came with extra parts that I think are accidental. One of them came with a spare head, one with an extra half-arm, and so on. No pattern which lead me to assume that these are accidental. Thankfully I had no missing parts though.

Now for a slideshow of sorts to show off the articulation. I'm sure others can do better though.

Let Spider-Man serenade your collection.

"You want a piece of this?"

Dancing of righting?

"Hey Matt, can't reach this?"

 "Wakanda forever!"

"It's okay, Matt, maybe in Avengers 5."

"You need to get through me to get to Daredevil!"

"Hey gimme back my arm!"

"It's easy. Just do this."

You might have noticed the combat boots and overall "baggy" look of the figs as opposed to tights. It's probably because the molds they're using are for military figs and not made for Spider-Man. So technically, the only new mold here might be the head.

LF1007 Grading.

Plastic Quality: 4/5
The plastic felt a bit rubbery which isn't a bad thing. The gloss was in the right amount too. I don't know how it is for Mega Construx figs, but these were decent enough compared to other bootleg action figures [at this price] (these cost the same as bootleg minifigs).

Print Quality: 2/5
They're horrible at alignment. This sucks because the prints are relatively simple and were only on the heads (just eyes!!) and torsos.

Build Quality: 3.5/5
They're pretty solid. They're easy to build too and I had no problems building them, including their accessories. I just think that at times they were a bit too loose, but not to the point that they're unposeable. As figs with so many articulation points though, they have to be more sturdy and less loose.

Design Choice: 1.5/5
The 1.5 is just because this is the first Spider-Man in Mega Construx style in the bootleg industry. Other than that, these are bad designs. Bad character designs that are simply printed on soldier molds. Only thing Spider-man in terms of the mold is the head.

I think LF/XJ missed an opportunity here. I have no idea how much they put into these and how much they're earning/gonna earn, but I can't help but compare this to the early days of bootlego. Back then, Sheng Yuan and Decool made bootlegs look good. The quality was great but more importantly, they made figs that were new designs and had new molds. XJ/LF here on the other hand is simply abusing the same mold and making the same character in different colors/designs. If they want to get more people into their line of figures, they have to differentiate themselves similar to what SY and Decool did; those two brands were so good that even TLG fans would look at bootlegs since they had things that even TLG couldn't provide.

"What!? I'm not gonna be displayed with the other minifigures!?"

As for my personal collection, I don't think these guys are gonna stay. I got into this hobby because of how great the minifig is designed despite its simplicity. If these were Halo figs though, it might be a different story, but as Marvel figs, nah.
