A late review in time for the new preview that has this same Iron Man but in Stealth and Silver Centurion colors.
(Not sure why he has a cup as an accessory.)
So the fig. First of all, it's different from the preview. The helmet uses the same mold as that of Kopf's Iron Stan.
I guess I expected the helmet to be a new mold and not a reuse. Though I'm glad that at least they didn't decide to just make the whole front half yellow and that they even printed the shape properly enough.
I think the eyes look through the helmet's eyeholes well enough. It looks better in person and on different angles.
While I enjoy classic variants, I feel like we could've gotten a better Iron Man. I honestly would've been fine with a variant of this that came with a printed helmet (same mold as Wasp/ANAD Iron Man); though I guess really seeing the eyes of the fig looks good too.
KF835 Grading:
Plastic Quality: 5/5
No issues here. If anything looks off, it's probably just because of the prints.
Print Quality: 3.5/5
For the most part it's good, but the yellows aren't consisntent. For example, the yellow on the legs have a bit of a different shade from the ones on the arms; this is a printing problem that even TLG encounters here and there.
Build Quality: 4.5/5
The helmet opens and closes but in the source material, only the yellow portion should be moving open. Nonetheless, with what they have, this isn't bad.
Design Choice: 3.5/5
We just know it could've been better. Still nice to see the first classic Iron Man. (Surprisingly.)
Is it worth it? I think it still is. I'm willing to bet that a brand in the future will create their own Classic Iron Man minifig; I mean he's currently the face of Marvel more or less. We'll just have to wait and see if those new ones will be better or if Kopf actually did a good job.
This guy's been available in AngeloMarcus Greenhills for a few days now. I couldn't find the pictures because my laptop's been slow and I probably misplaced them; now I did and here's the review. More coming soon so stay tuned!

The cup is because Iron Man is an alcoholic, and the most famous story from the time he wore this armor is probably "Demon in a Bottle". It's a little cheeky to include it.
ReplyDeleteI would probably connect the helmet's "three-hole mouth" print by drawing a curve line with a black marker to make this Iron Man minifig more comic accurate. :D
