What I hate about mixing bricks from different brands is that sometimes they're hard to attach with each other or worse, almost impossible to disassemble. This tool looks like it'll be able to help though.
Don't get me wrong, the standard brick separator works well, but this looks more effective in separating bricks.
As for using the hammer, light hammering should help make your builds more stable. Even expert builders use their own hammers when building more complicated builds.

This thing is from Mould King and reportedly, big Mould King sets sometimes includes this.
