WM WM6117: Falcon and the Winter Soldier Minifigures Review

First previewed here. And yes, the wings are much bigger in person.

The three "are they good or are they bad" characters from TFATWS: Zemo, John Walker (Captain America/US Agent), Flag-Smasher (Karli).

Zemo and Karli come with their masks as different heads, which is a great addition! John Walker has the shield with blood splattered on it and it's printed on the right spot!

See, John can hold the shield on that angle because WM printed it correctly. (As in, it's not printed on the bottom of the handle which allows for this angle)

The guns aren't nice for me because they give off a sci-fi feel when in the show, they used modern & realistic guns.

The minifigures themselves are great! WM has been making overly-detailed minifigures, and while some people don't always like that, it's become WM's own unique style. We should welcome changes like this instead of Chinese companies just ripping off Lego's designs.

Lego rarely prints on the front legs, but WM almost always prints all-around the legs now.

Minor issue: They just mirror the arm prints which means that this American flag is also mirrored.

Karli's hair color isn't in the Lego System, I think, and it might matter to other MOCers/collectors. It's probably because the initial plan was to include black hair for Karli but they changed it midway through production and gave her orange hair. No complaints, I love that WM was able to adjust so quickly.

No alternate faces unfortunately.

US Agent's face print seems like it was printed a bit higher than normal since the helmet prevented the mouth from being seen when pushed to the bottom.

For Bucky/Winter Soldier/White Wolf, these are the guns included. Again, these are sci-fi guns unlike what we saw from the show. Winter Soldier has a rifle from Star Wars while White Wolf has an SMG from Halo. Not really complaining though since these are nice gun pieces to have at least.

Design-wise, I love the Winter Soldier but I'm just meh about White Wolf. Quality-wise, no problems like most, if not all, the WM minifigures recently.

While I love the front design of Winter Soldier, I don't like that there's a gun printed on his back that doesn't look like it's usable by minifigures. It's a great touch and an accurate one (he had that in the movie), but I wish it was more in line with the minifigure scale.

Winter Soldier has that make up look which is a great addition!

White Wolf's robot arm is a bit too green than what it looks like in the show. At least we have this variant, since other brands have a White Wolf minifigure with more accurate arms anyway.

Before we get into Falcon, here are the official instructions from WM.

If it's tough to insert the outer wing into the inner wing, rotate the peg as you push down. Although, Captain America's wings has an issue which you'll see below.

I have always been a Falcon fan and I love each of these minifigures. But, it's worth noting that the wing molds are the same for all which isn't accurate to the movies. The mold looks correct for the left-most (AoU/CW Falcon) minifigure while for the other two, WM just colored them to suit the costume. Is that a complaint? Not really because you wouldn't even notice it unless you pay huge attention to Falcon's wings.

There's great wing articulation despite being thin pieces! Lego's [new, non-MCU] Falcon minifigure has articulation but also looks bulky; this one doesn't.

Of course, WM included Redwing (Falcon's Drone) on all of the Falcon minifigures!

Plus, Redwing is removable! Unfortunately, it can't be held by a minifigure's hand.

These are the components of the wings. They don't necessarily fit in the "LEGO System" but they're not to far from it as well.

Captain America (Sam Wilson) was the most problematic minifigure for me in this set and it's because of red paint. First, we get those red marks on the white part of the wings.

Then, the pegs that are colored red had their red paint scratched off just by inserting them into the inner wing.

This was a picture I took right after the first time I assembled the wings.

The red paint might be a bit too thick for the holes of the inner wing. A fix for this would be to loosen the inner wing's hole or to recolor the pegs once they're on the wings. The other wings didn't have this problem because the pegs weren't painted.

On the image on the left, you'll see the scratched off paint on the pegs. Fortunately, the wings are modular enough that you can flip them around for your pictures (as seen on the right). (Unfortunately, the back part of my Captain America's wings had those red markings on it; probably an isolated case though.)

The base minifigures are amazing! The wings will get the most attention for sure, but the base minifigures in themselves are great. There's a lot of detail (like most WM minifigures) but they still look like they can fit in a Lego collection well.

While some brands, ehem DLP ehem, have started to not print on the back, WM's here still printing even when they included a huge backpack for these minifigures. I absolutely love this and hope to see more brands follow.

In case you're wondering too how thick the wings are and how he'll look when standing up. Not too bad, right? Definitely not as bulky as other Lego Falcon minifigures.

These minifigures are a bang for your buck. The amount of effort WM put into designing these while also producing high quality minifigures is worth your money. Will I still get Lego's own TFATWS minifigures should they ever release them? Yes, but if you don't want to wait or can't afford those, you can't go wrong with these Lego-alternative Falcon and the Winter Soldier minifigures. (Plus, they're great for collectors on a budget.)

Next up, we'll review TFATWS minifigures from Kopf and XINH once we get our hands on them.

  2. Which falcon/captain America figure do you think looks best?

  3. The US Flag on John Walker's right arm is probably correctly mirrored. US military flag patches , when on the right arm, are mirrored to resemble the way a flag looks when its held on the battlefield during a charge.

  4. Finally a detailed winter soldier. I like Zemo best of WM, love all three Falcon figures, Kali is also very detailed. I like Walker and Bucky better from XINH.
