The price for the Lego Red Guardian is based on brickeconomy.com as of this posting.
For those unaware, this Lego Red Guardian came from a Lego Black Widow set that was supposed to be an SDCC release this year. That set came out for a while on Amazon and the Lego Store (in the US at least) for $40, but as expected it sold out quickly. My brother was able to pick this one up though and I decided to make a comparison with the existing KO Red Guardian minifigures.
On the left is KORUIT's Red Guardian while on the right is XINH's Red Guardian.
Let's talk about the shield first. Lego decided NOT to use the Captain America shield mold for Red Guardian [and Taskmaster from the same set]. I have no idea why since their shields look to have the same molds in the movie. Additionally, Lego's Red Guardian shield makes use of a sticker instead of being printed on the piece. Really disappointed since it doesn't look as good as Cap's or the KO Red Guardian's shield.
Personally, I prefer the KORUIT Red Guardian's shield.
For the base minifigure. Lego didn't print on the arms and legs. This is pretty normal for most Lego superhero minifigures. The prints are great on Lego's torso though, but so are the ones on the knockoff Red Guardian minifigures. Plastic quality on all three is also good, but there's really something about Lego's plastic quality that is much better. Still, if you don't have a Lego minifigure to compare it too, the knockoff Red Guardian minifigures are more than good enough.
Which one is accurate to the movie the most? I don't know. Because we haven't seen the movie yet, sadly.
I'm just gonna assume that Lego's design is the most accurate. Still, the bootleg Red Guardian minifigures are alright. Extra props to XINH for giving Red Guardian some boots.
It's unfortunate that Lego has a new helmet mold for superheroes, but they didn't include one for Red Guardian. So did KORUIT too, but at least XINH tried with their existing Captain America helmet.
This is Lego's Red Guardian with the KORUIT shield and XINH helmet. Looks good? Weirdly enough, I actually prefer it without the helmet; maybe because the arms and legs are lacking in prints. That's personal preference though.
So, this Lego Red Guardian minifigure is almost $40.00 alone, (since the whole set he came from is now hard to find). KORUIT and XINH minifigures are on average just $1.00. Is the extra $39.00 worth it? I don't think so unless you're a completionist collector; if you are, you should pick Red Guardian up immediately while more people are selling.
Although, I'm hoping that Lego still releases Red Guardian in a more common set, similar to what they did with their SDCC Captain Marvel set. This'll upset the "investors" but I'd rather have happy collectors than happy investors.
