POGO PG2162, PG2164: Alien (Red Variant) and Predator Minifigs Review

PG2162 - Predator
PG2164 - Alien

It seems POGO isn't done with Aliens and Predators but I'm thankful that these new ones are improvements over the old ones (maybe not the Alien because of some issues..?).

First previewed here along with one other Xenomorph and 5 other Predators.

PG2164 comes with all these parts and while that might have some pros, it's also a source of my problem with the fig.

The separation of the parts/molds means less likely issues of mold problems; if they just made the mold as one altogether, that might have been difficult and so this was a wise decision from POGO. Unfortunately, some of them ended up being too loose that the fig falls apart easily.

I was surprised to see these new arms they made just for the Xenomorph. I'm not familiar with this Xenomorph variant so I don't know why it has human shaped hands; it's weird cause human minifigs don't even have that much detail, lol! The hands aren't removable and seems to be just one mold with the whole arm.

Head is comprised of these two molds. The prints on the teeth are surprisingly good.

There's that chest armor where the tail and those two spikes attach to. They look great but because of the armor, the neck ends up being too short and the head ends up not being able to stay in place.

The biggest issue, assuming you can just glue the loose parts issue, is the plastic nub marks on the sides of the head. Now it looks like it has eyes.. lol

The plastic mold looks really good though.

If you can smoothen out those plastic marks and glue the loose parts, you've got yourself a good Alien Xenomorph minifig.

I didn't like the old Predator minifig. To start things off, I think I prefer this over the old POGO Predator minifig. The only thing I prefer on the old POGO Predator minifig is the shoulder cannon included that this one doesn't have.

The best thing I like here are the clip-on arm blades! Given POGO's poor plastic quality [at times], it's difficult to remove hands and consequently bracelet like accessories; with this clip-on style blade though, that won't be a problem. It's also not too loose or too easily removable which I think is more of a good point than a bad.

The mask also feels more accurate but I do think that POGO should've instead included a back head print with a black line to have the eyes of the helmet.

Don't get me wrong, the Predator face on the minifig head looks great but the eyes don't align with the helmet.

The spear also seems accurate enough to the movies and it looks and feels great!

There were some white/grey spots around the hair (that are hard to see because of the light) but they weren't too noticeable too.

No back face print; I think they should've included a visor-like print to align with the helmet's eyes.

Top view. There are some marks on the helmet that I think are intentional and helps with the Predator's overall look. Makes him look badass!

I like both these variants of the Alien and Predator. I even prefer this Predator over the older one. For the Alien though, I think I prefer the two older variants (PG1050 - Xenomorph on minifig body; PG1214 - Xenomorph on skeleton bodybut since this Xenomorph seems like one of those special variants we see in the movies, maybe it's worth adding it to your Xenomorph collection.

For now, AngeloMarcus Greenhills only stocked up on these two which I think is a good idea versus having too many Predators and Aliens in their stock. Some of us might even just want the helmet or the accessories so there's not point in getting them all. I'm sure if there's still demand though that they'll get more for sale!
