DTB: Lego SDCC Spider-Man PS4 Minifigure Alternatives Showcase

As most of you already know, the special Marvel SDCC minifigure this year will be a Spider-Man PS4 minifigure. While some might find this boring, especially knockoff collectors, some purist collectors are happy about this. Imagine being a purist and seeing a new, unique character appear as an SDCC minifigure; that would mean that you'd need to shell out hundreds (I assume) of dollars just to complete your collection. Variants like this, on the other hand, are not really essential to a lot of Marvel collectors and as such, could easily "save" their money instead of getting one.

For knockoff collectors though, you probably already have at least one Spider-Man PS4 already; the first fig on the left actually came out even before Spider-Man Homecoming was showing in cinemas, lol!

This is the upcoming official SDCC minifigure.

Moving back to the alternatives. Before anything, I'd like to remind you all that these Chinese brands were inspired by other authentic third party customizers. (Alright, copied their designs which the customizers also copied from PS4; I mean inspired. Point is, it's hard to be technical about the legal issues but the least we could do as collectors and customers is to acknowledge the original designers and maybe check their stuff out!)

From left to right:
Format is: Chinese brand [Original Minifig Designer Brand]

XINH 677 [Minifig Factory]
DLP9084 / KF607 [Hobby Brick]
DLP9095 / KF1124 [Outside Brick]
PG2135 [Outside Brick]
DLP9092 [Minifig Madness]

Two variants of Outside Brick's clones: POGO's variant doesn't have the web design on the mask. Overall too, the DLP/Kopf variant has much better quality.

I've got two of this guy because he also comes out in a Kopf minifig set. Same goes for lots of DLP minifigures.

Hobby Bricks' designs are always so detailed. Too detailed that minifig faces have noses too; doesn't count for Spider-Man though since it's covered.

We have yet to see the back of the SDCC minifigure but when we do, you can compare it to these.

My favorite one is this design from Minifig Madness. I actually don't have the DLP set he comes from yet but I picked him up from another DLP boxed set. (Usually, DLP previews a set of 8 minifigs then releases 2 sets of 4 vehicles that each have the same minifigs from the initial set-of-8 preview.)

My top picks for the best SDCC Spider-Man PS4 alternative.

Though I'm 95% sure that some Chinese or knockoff brand will create a clone of the SDCC design at some point since it's fairly popular. Even Minifig-Madness already has a clone of it for sale, but do note that they're using real Lego parts!

A number of people have already started conversations with me in the past on how they are minifigure purists but turn to bootlego or knockoffs for SDCC minifigures because 1) they're expensive and 2) hard to find. Even custom minifigures are somewhat difficult to get (after some time) and also demand a huge price. In the end though, superior quality will always come from the original designers, be it third party or Lego. They also need our support if they want to keeps things going; don't forget that manufacturing isn't the only cost they have to deal with as marketing, PR, trademarks, and many more all require money which bootlego companies don't necessarily have to invest on.

Off topic, I'd like to apologize again for the AliExpress false new rule. Despite that, I'll be sharing any new updates we may encounter but I'll look into it deeper and ask more people and sellers about it before making it into a post.

  2. At some point, would it be possible for you to do a Spider-Man suit list like you’ve done for Iron Man?
